CRITICISM, though not always agreeable, is always wholesome when it is well- informed and judicial, and he is wise who tries to profit by it however distasteful the attempt. In this spirit we awaited the criticism of our first number; we had had a perfectly clear conception of our aims, and it will be admitted that our statement of them was not wanting in frankness; we had done our best to embody them in concrete form; to what extent these aims would be appreciated, and how their concrete expression would be received we could not tell.
