A-Embroidered panel in a bedroom of the Residenz at Munich. Early 18th century. Possibly the work of J. F. J. Bassecour, the "Brodeur de Paris." The middle landscape is copied from Dapper's engraving (B) which was based on a smaller print published by Nieuhof. The lowest landscape is copied from Nieuhof's fanciful picture of the famous Porcelain Pagoda at Nanking (C). With strange incongruity emus appear at the top in a scene borrowed from P. van der Aa, after Dapper. Other decorations à la chinoise by the designer. Contacts between China and the West
